Chapel of Saint Joseph in Amendolara

Located on one of the hills that precede the historic center, overlooking the beautiful sea that baths this land, there is the Chapel of Saint Joseph in Amendolara. Its origin dates back to the Byzantine era, and rises on the remains of a building before that time. It is formed by a rectangular compartment with an apse, alongside the south side by a rectangular hall, of which traces are still distinguishable on the ground. The historic owners, namely members of the Andreassi family of ⇒ Amendolara, are buried inside. Traditionally, the month of March is entirely dedicated to St. Joseph. It is said that women, in ancient times, went to the chapel every day, reciting the Holy Rosary of St. Joseph, with songs of popular piety. On the nineteenth day the feast is celebrated in honor of the Saint and this can be considered a true country holiday, as it takes place entirely in the chapel and in the surroundings. Mother Church of Saint Margaret in Amendolara

In the center of the hamlet Amendolara, between the narrow alleys and the ancient houses that follow, the one attached to the other to represent the strong sense of communion, is found the Mother Church of Saint Margaret in Amendolara. Its origin dates back to the Romanesque era, but it has undergone many refinements in various historical periods. In 1521 Pope Leo X gave permission to build a monastery outside the city walls of the Dominicans. Until that year was the Mother Church of Saint Margaret the place of their preaching. It has three entrances: the main entrance door in stone is of the fifteenth century; the second also access to the bell tower; finally, the third who directly enters the sacristy. The later aisles were probably added later, giving them the traditional Greek cross shape. The restoration work, carried out in the years 1934-35, completely transformed the apse.
