Chapel of Our Lady of the Cafaro in Albidona

The small and charming Chapel of Our Lady of the Cafaro in Albidona is immersed in a historically uncontaminated valley of Albidona. The church is set in a valley, on the slopes of the Avena river, between the dense vegetation of oleanders and broom plants, and reaches it by a road linking ⇒ Trebisacce and ⇒ Albidona. The story that has been handed down to us through the love of the inhabitants of Albidona for their own origins, tells us that probably the Basilian monks were to build the Church of Santa Maria del Cafaro around the year 1000 in a ditch, strategic place to protect themselves from the possible Saracen invasions. In fact, Cáfaro, from the Araratic, would mean just "ditch", "valley".
