A small town of about 800 inhabitants, still retains the charm and the myth of its history today.
Surrounded by the thick vegetation of the Commaroso forest, Canna is a typical mountainous medieval plant.
The seventeenth century urban structure is characterized by Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical elements.

Styles that can be admired by observing the palaces named Toscani, Pitrelli, Ielpo.
On the banks of the Canna stream it is still possible to admire what remains of ancient mills. Once they represented the greatest economic resource, they are today a cultural asset of inestimable value.
But the most beautiful monuments of Canna made them Mother Nature, giving to this little village, real souvenirs unique to the multi-centennial charm.
They are the “patriarchal trees” that with their shapes and majesty leave literally breathless. And it is thanks to the lives of these trees that have rebuilt the past and the history of Canna.
The presence of these majestic “truffle” olive trees is linked to the birth and development of the country itself.

In fact, with the attribution of the biological age of these trees it is possible to trace the early human settlements in cannabis.
And it is by immersing itself in this centenarian nature that one can lose in a naturalistic path. It is possible to practice it on foot, ideal for schoolchildren and trekking enthusiasts.

Going from the Fountain, continuing downhill for the districts S. Rocco, Cerasa, then back up to the La Manna place, with a canyon stop, home to birds of rare beauty, and continuing for the pathway from the drywall walls, until reaching the pine tree of Rizzìr leading to the Fountain.


In the course of its history, has been able to keep the perfumes of its tradition unchanged, to re-propose them today with the beauty of a time.
One of the aspects that always accompanies the life of every Canna’s inhabitants , reflecting the visitor’s permanence, is music.

Everything about the life of the cannes has always been marked and time of music. Almost everyone had a musical instrument among the tools. This is evidence of how music was, together with work, an essential component for its psycho-physical well-being.

The “crew” of the era was usually formed by bass musicians (violin), stringed instruments (guitar) and rhythmic (knocker guitar), often clinker instruments (clarinet).
One of the most characteristic dances is the “schoz”. Dance that, legend wants, has been handed down by the French army, who came to Canna in the early 1800’s.

The soldiers spread a music whose dance remembers the one in vogue between European courts, the schoz. Even today, it is an excellent example of the dance of cannes and can not be missed in the weddings, used at the opening of the wedding of the bride and groom.
Guardians of this ancient dance are the oldest cheerleaders of the place who, smiling dancing at schoz time, go back to the past of a dance whose origins reach to the French Revolution and to Napoleon Bonaparte.

Always according to the stories handed down from generation to generation, some soldiers stopped at Canna. Here they decided to put up family, and still today the descendants of those families are called “the French”.
